A lovely weekend

The Veterinary Specialty Hospital that we went and saw on Friday was just spectacular. They had MRI, cancer therapy, stem cell transplants, kidney transplants, dialysis and everything you can possible imagine. The sky really was the limit. It was a great experience to get to tour the hospital. Maybe I will go there once before I leave for rounds with the interns.

In the evening on Friday there was a neighbourhood happy hour here in the street, where everyone brought some snacks and wine and just mingled. It was fun to meet some people from the street and everyone was extremely interested in a person from Iceland (The mean age was around 70 haha). One guy brought homemade beer which was made with maple syrup, it was delicious. Melodee made croissants with apple, honey, brie and pecans.

On Saturday morning I went to an outdoor mall and did a little shopping. The sales are in full swing so everything is super cheap. I allowed myself to buy two things for myself and then I bought this body for my sisters future son :D

In the evening, B&M took me and their son Griffin (who came home for the weekend) to a REAL Mexican restaurant, which was AMAZING.

I had a fahita

After we came home we watch Edward Scissorhands an old classic with Johny Depp.

On Sunday I took a walk in the morning with Melodee and the dogs after Griffin made us breakfast. He had to work for the new car he was getting.

Here is Griffin with his parents and his new sweet ride in front of the house.

Later that day me and B&M went to San Diego Safari Park.

Here is one of the workers introducing some kind of lizard or something, have no idea what it is haha

Timon and his buddy (meerkats) were taking a nap just beside the glass wall

Saw a silverback gorilla, who is way larger than me!

If you wanted you could take a airballoon over the park

Me and Bob, ready for the tram ride to Africa

Here are some rhinos and antelopes in the mountain. The park had one rhino of a particular rhino species , where only seven exist in the whole world! They have multiple breeding programs to try to save species that are about to become extinct but unfortunately there is only one male rhino there so the species will become extinct after that generation :(

The giraffes are always a pleasure to watch. You got to see them up close and personal while eating.

The view was so pretty in the park!

Grr, I am angry and I have rabies. Watch out!

Ended the day at Sammy´s, that had great food. Overall just a wonderful weekend :D

Sushi and Sunset Market

Went out for sushi yesterday with Bob, Rachel, Katie and Judy, who are all vets at the hospital. It was a really nice place with some yummi food.

They had something called firecracker rolls which was super delicious. It was crab, jalapenios and creamcheese in some superfried scaling. The dish on my right :D

The double spicy tuna was great as well.

The staff did a little smile face on the dish with the monkey balls, which are mushrooms in some crusting and souse.

Our waiter asked if it was a special occasion and Bob joked that it was his 32nd birthday so the waiter gave us free dessert, a fried banana with green tee ice-cream. They have everything fried here!

I took these lovely pictures of the backyard, which is so beautiful in the evenings with the lights! B&M really have a wonderful home.

This night we had grilled pizza with pesto, archives and mozzarella before me and Melodee went to the sunset market that is every Thursday downtown.

At the market you can buy various things, food, and there is also music playing.

This is the coolest grill I have ever seen made from an old horse wagon. All the food at the market smelled so nice and they even had many flawors of Mojitos that people could buy in a humongous plastic cup.

Saw this guy all hip and cool in his leopard outfit. Maybe I should get some boots to my leopard collection?

Tomorrow I am going with Bob and the two new interns at the hospital to a specialty hospital around San Diego where Bob is having a lecture on how to be a superstar in the exam room. Looking forward to it :D

Baseball and Bowling

Went to a baseball game on Friday where the Angels were playing. Before we left for the game B&M gave me a baseball cap to wear so I fit right in.

In front of the stadium I saw these stones with family names. Apparently fans can buy a stone with their family name on it. The guy that took us to the game had a stone there.

It was totally packed at the game, 45,515 people!

I had a hot dog, beer (Stella on draft yum), peanuts, and some kettle corn. I think I will roll home like a gigantic fattyball after this summer. To much good food!!!

Every friday after the games there is a firework show

On saturday I bicycled with Bob 12 km to the beach and we met Melodee up for some fish and chips. In the evening some of the staff went bowling, and I actually did pretty well. Got over a hundred points in both games, woop woop:)

This morning I went to the hospital in my sweet ride,  can´t complain! I feel so overly spoiled. At the clinic I got to do some new interesting things and I´m slowly progressing to be a better upcoming vet.

Tonight there was an event at the hospital were people could bring their dog and all the dogs could play and people could mingle and get some snacks. It was like being at the movies watching these furballs play;)

Until next time/Tinna

Crazy hats, steel band and Temple Grandin

The Opening Day at Del Mar Racetracks was AMAZING. You felt like you had been transported back to the 1920´s. 47,000 people came there from all over. We saw multiple limousines on the way there and I got to tell ya, there was some serious botox in da house.

The hats were crazy and I don´t even know how some people kept their head straight! Brittany, one of the night nurses at the clinic, made her own hat from a old one she had and my god it was pretty. Monique wore a turquaise hat and borrowed me a white one from her roommate :)

It was fun to see these pretty horses and OMG the jocks were so tiny that I was a lot taller then them. We got our picture taken with one of them and I swear he was like 120 cm.

Someone proposed via airplane, hope she noticed and said yes ;)

Some people had some serious betting going on!

I decided to be a MAJOR tourist and get a pic with me and all the seriously armed policemen, LAPD and some crazy hat lady.

After the horse races I met B&M up along with two other couples that they know and ate at the harbour. Here is a pic of the tres amigos.

Then after dinner we saw a steel band play a few songs. It was nice, but constantly reminded me of a steelband sound in a cow haha (only vet people get this joke). This was the view, not bad!

Today was a kind of quiet day at the clinic, but I got to observe an orthopedic surgery which was exciting. When I came home I fell a sleep while sunbathing in the pool. Gosh I could get used to this life! Then Bob asked me if I wanted to go for a run and we ran 4 km around the neighbourhood. After dinner we watched a great movie about Temple Grandin, which is a really famous autistic woman who could read cattle in a way that other people couldn´t and helped design a lot of slaughterhouses. Definately a must see movie with Claire Danes.

Tomorrow I am going to a baseball game with B&M and one of their friends that had extra tickets. Will be my first game so it will be fun. I´ve heard that it is a slow sport but I will just enjoy the atmosphere.
